Health Myth #1
Myth: Eating foods containing fat, makes you fat.
Why: Eating fat does not cause you to gain weight or become fat. For many people, the real reason for weight gain is excess carbohydrates. When your body takes in carbohydrates, regardless of the form (sugar, bread, fruits, or vegetables), your body converts them into glucose. When your glucose levels rise your body produces insulin to get rid of the excess glucose. Your body does this by converting glucose into glycogen which is stored in the liver and muscles. Because your body can only handle a limited amount of glycogen, the excess glucose is stored as body fat. Once your glucose levels fall below normal, you become hungry and the process begins all over again.
Tip: Eat a diet containing roughly 30% fats, 40% protein, 30% carbs. Make sure the carbs you take in, are primarily complex carbs and carbs coming from fruits and vegetables.
